Book review: The Names They Gave Us

Of the books I’ve read that include a religious main character trying to find his or her way in the world, I think this is the best one of the bunch. The main character, Lucy, is the only daughter of a pastor and wife who run a summer camp. Her mother had a bout with cancer a couple of years before the book starts, and now the disease has come back at the beginning of summer.

I’m going to start out my review of “Lights on the Mountain” by Cheryl Anne Tuggle with a guess. The book takes place near Ellwood City, Pa., and sounds kind of similar to a Flannery O’Connor story with its flickers of grace becoming evident through tragedy.
