No one defies the Faerie Council. Until sixteen-year-old Trisha Penchant comes along.

As an outsider with no family and no home, Trisha’s learned to keep her head down—and her dangerous fae blood a secret. But when she’s discovered by the Faerie Council and forced to join a manhunt for a powerful fugitive, staying invisible is no longer an option.

Her new team? The ex-boyfriend who just shot her and left her for dead, a boy with an uncanny tracking ability, and a cynical leader who’s already betting on her failure. The Council’s orders are clear: catch the fugitive before he comes into his full powers, or pay the price.

As Trisha’s own abilities grow stronger, she faces an impossible choice. Follow orders and go against her conscience, or fail and lose everything—including her foster parents, the first people who have ever shown her unconditional love.

This character-driven YA urban fantasy weaves action and found family into a story about finding your place in the world.
A perfect read for fans of character-driven, clean, YA Urban Fantasy!

Tropes

My crush is an abuser Wade. Trisha’s ex-boyfriend of a year shoots her shortly before the novel starts, and yet she spends the first half of the novel noticing how handsome he is.

Parallel world Faerie. Trisha’s from there but has no memory of it. She has heard all about it from her mother whom she hasn’t seen in a while.

Found family It’s right there in the main title on Amazon. Trisha has her foster parents, whom she really wants to stay with, a family she’s supposed to hunt down and capture but she likes them too much, and a band of interdimensional warriors. The last group is kind of hard to like.

Love Triangle Wade and Jaden. Wade’s handsome but he also committed attempted murder (against the female main character) and Jaden is virtuous and dreamy, dreamy in the sense that it’s hard to tell if he’s fully there or you just dreamed him.

Child of two worlds Trisha. It’s causing her enormous angst that she can’t tell humans about her origins and the adventures she’s taking while her doppleganger is attending classes.

Ethical orphan Despite being abandoned by her mother and having a terrible time going through the foster care system, Trisha has a heart of gold.

Action girl Starren. Tough as nails, refuses to explain what’s going on, spends a significant amount of time as the antagonist.

Hidden in plain sight The fae are able to be unnoticeable by humans.

Truce zone Fort Wayne, Ind. As for why they picked this place, your guess is as good as mine.
